Arrochar Frontiers
Impossible problems, researched persistently.A research programme for problems that have no current solution.
Arrochar Frontiers takes on problems the field has filed under impossible, and works them the way we work everything else: a hypothesis stated so that it can be proven wrong, every constraint recorded as a design criterion rather than a reason to stop, and the cheapest decisive experiment run first. Nothing here is a product. Nothing here is for sale.
The projectsFive rules, applied to every project
The same discipline we apply to governed software, applied to problems with no current solution. The rules are what make the work honest when the subject invites hype.
- 01
State the hypothesis so it can lose
A hypothesis that cannot be falsified is not a hypothesis. Every project names the result that would close it, and commits to withdrawing rather than defending if that result arrives.
- 02
Treat constraints as specifications
Every objection the literature raises is logged with a design response, or with an admission that we have none. A constraint is never recorded as a reason to stop.
- 03
Run the cheapest decisive experiment first
A clean negative in the first year is worth more than a decade of construction on an assumption nobody tested. Phases are ordered by what settles the most for the least.
- 04
Separate what we cannot do from what we cannot afford
Some stages are blocked by physics nobody has. Others are blocked only by quantity, effort or conventional technology. The two need different strategies, and conflating them wastes effort.
- 05
Publish the gaps
A model that lists only its strengths is a brochure. Each project page says where the model has no answer, in plain words.
What we are working on
Each project page gives the context, the master hypothesis and what we are researching next. Nothing more, by design.
Project Chrononaut
Hypothesis stated, first experiments scopedBackward time travel
Can a machine send something back in time?
Travelling forwards in time is settled physics. The hard problem is coming back. Project Chrononaut treats the return trip as an engineering problem with one master hypothesis, and lists the experiments that would settle it, starting with the four that need no new physics.
What this is and what it is not
Arrochar Frontiers is a research programme of Arrochar Labs, not a product line and not a promise. For each project we publish the context, the master hypothesis and the next experiments. The full models, architectures and blueprints stay internal. If a hypothesis falls, the project's page will say so.
Working in one of these fields?
The experiments that come next need collaborators: spectroscopy groups, quantum-simulator time, mathematicians and people who have spent their careers on a problem everyone else filed under impossible.
